Home of the modeling savants....Celebrating forty years of modeling fun, education, and history in 2025!
TRIAD Plastic Modeling Society
Recently retired Mark Beck didn’t give me a data sheet but these were not kits but he painted them with gold Rust-Oleum and boy did they turn out nice. Mark hopes to sell them at a toy show in the near future.
President JR Burggren brought in a WIP…which he has only been working on for 16 years! Hey, these things take time! The shell is vacuum formed but will have many of JR’s tweaks. It will be a late model wedge design dirt car. Everything you see in red is scratchbuilt. It will have working everything. I will give him another 16 years but that’s it! I have my limits!
Well, that was fun! see ya at the Work Session!
We don’t call Tom “Mr. Sherman” for no reason! Here is his M4AE8 “Easy Eight” kitbashed from kits from Dragon, Italeri, and Tamiya. His models look great if he can keep his hand out of the frame! 😉
Next up is ship modeler extraordinaire Mark Jahsan who has temporarily lost his way…no…he is taking a shortcut through car modeling and we have discovered that he is just as excellent with cars as he is with ships!
First up we have his red 1/25th AMT 1966 Mustang Coupe. This was the FIRST Trans Am car and helped Ford win first TA Championship. This car didn’t win the first race but it had the fastest lap! The blue car is his 1/25 AMT Camaro, 1968 champioon owned by Roger Penske and drived by legendary Mark Donohue. Mark scratchbuilt the interior, pipes and wiring in the engine compartment. He used Fred Cady decals. Mark even got to meet Penske! Cool!
We ended the meeting with Mark Welch so let’s start off with his mammoth 1/16th Heng Long Merkava IV IAC 7.0. He said he purchased it at a good price of $225. It comes with a complete electronics suite including full mobility, turret turns 360, realistic smoke, headlights, taillights, operating gun including barrel and hull recoil. I probably missed something! Has metal suspension and gearbox, painted with Tamiya rattle can paint. Markings for company cdf, A company 2dBn 74h armored brigade. The engine is upfront for crew protection and it can carry six troops in the rear. Took Mark about six months to build and it is awesome!

Yet another Airfix 1/72 model, the BF-110C painted with…..you know! This plane was an escort fighter
This is Stan’s V-14 type Romulan “Sparrowhawk” Warbird. Again, this is a custom 3D model representing a light cruiser. Inspiration came from the Starfleet Command video game. So cool!
And the final model is yet another…hey, wait….it’s a Dragon 1/72 kit of the Do-335-A-12! I wasn’t aware Dragon made aircraft kits…thought they were just in armor. This was a trainer version of the fastest prop plane of WWII. And he stayed with tradition except he also used decals from Superscale. Great job Stan and Doug!
Another Airfix model, the Boulton Paul Defiant painted with Gunze Mr. Color, decals from the kit, and weathered with Ammo by Mig washes and pastels. Not the gun turret top!
Here we have five 1/72 aircraft that were built by Stan and painted and decaled by Mr. Seekman. First is the Airfix Blenheim MK1 painted with Gunze Mr. Color, decals from the kit, weathered with Ammo by Mig washes and pastels. Doug said Stan did a great job building the models.
This is the Airfix Hawker Typhon and painted, decaled, and weathered the same! Note the D-Day strips..
Stan Carrier is taking his 3D printing to a whole new level…let’s call it 3D bashing. He is taking a 3D model and adding so much more…really creates a ton of interest. This is his 1/1000 Heavy Destroyer USS Oliver Hazard Perry named after the famous ship Captain of the war of 1812. He used decals from G-Cals from Facebook. Really great job, Stan
This 1/35 Testors/Italeri M24 Chaffee light tank is way beyond cool. He didn’t write down his winter weathering technique but it turned out great and he added some Woodland Scenics snow. Everybody loved this model!
Tom Miller showed off three great looking models…but you will have to take my word on one of them! I take my eyes off him for a second and he’s screwing things up!! That’s NOT my hand in the photo! All photos are taken with a two second timer to eliminate camera movement….but I guess Tom couldn’t wait! Never had this happen before.. Bring your W./O.T. B truck back in at the March S&T, Tom! 😉
