Home of the modeling savants....Celebrating forty years of modeling fun, education, and history in 2025!

Here is the Academy Spitfire Mk XIV (they went all the way to Mk 47) which had the Griffon engine instead of the merlin.  He painted it with Gunze Mr. Color, Aeromaster Decals, Ultracast seat, Qunitas 3D printed interior, and he weathered this beauty with Ammo by Mig washes and pastels.  Wish he would join us at the Ridout!

I know what you are thinking…this just might be the best-looking model JR has ever built!  I would have to agree….I helped him build it!  OK, I started it and it was beyond my skill level 1.55…so he finished it.  He said the kit has above average detail but pretty much every part has fit issues.  Actually, I wasn’t having any problems with the kit, I just don’t want him to feel bad!  NOT! He painted the frame and interior with Testors Blazing Black extreme lacquer.  The body was finished off with Model Master Daytona Yellow lacquer.  He used the kit decals.  I have to say, we did a pretty good job!  😉

Mark Welch brough in another ship model…this time it was the 1/400 Heller Graf Spee.  He said the kit had poor detail and mold quality.  He painted it with Tamiya rattle can and Testors enamels.  The wood deck was from Artworx, and he rigged it with EZ Line.  He omitted with silly looking deck railings and used Peddinghaus decals.  The water was Sculptamold.  Another great ship model, Mark!

TRIAD sure produces some awesome models!  See ya at the work session!

Tom Miller showed off his 1/35 trumpeter M984/A2 Hemtt wrecker .  He used wheels from DEF Model and the cab is 3D printer.  This guy is good!

Uh oh, those of us (Tom Ralya and me) who are entering models in the tiny category at the Ridout are upset. Mark Jahsen brought in the winning model.
This vignette is 1/350 and uses Trumpeter Corsairs.  The palm trees are model RR.  He scratchbuilt the engine hoist to scale from photos.  He opened hatches and accessory bays just to tick me off.  It worked!  The base is plastic and (??) glazing putty for the sand. Be careful walking into the contest…don’t trip!

What the heck?!  Chuck Gaunt brought in his first model after all these years!  It is a beautiful 1/40 Revel M-48 ALVB with scissor bridge.  It rides on the M-48 chassis and Chuck knows this beast up close and personal.  He built this over winter and I think he three more models so we have more to look forward to!  Great job, Chuck!

His third model of the day was this gorgeous ICM Do-215B-4 which was the reconnaissance  version.  Gunze Mr. Color was used again, and the decals were from EXTRA Decals, the interior was from Eduard.  He weathered it with ammo by Mig washes and pastels. Fantastic!

Let’s kick things off with that modeler extraordinaire, Doug Seekman.  Here is his 1/48 Hobby Boss Romanian IAR 80 which were flown against our bombers at Ploesti.  He painted it with Gunze Mr. Color, kit decals, Quintas 3D printed interior, and weathered with Ammo by Mig washes and pastels. Perfection and Doug it was a nice kit.
