Home of the modeling savants....Celebrating forty years of modeling fun, education, and history in 2024!

The boss man brought in a dirt track stocker.  He used the AMT Plymouth Valiant Scamp and turned it into a dirt car.  Basically, he used all kits parts but switched tires and wheels.  He used Testors red on the frame and Testors Extreme Lacquer Firey Orange on the body followed by one coat of lacquer and Testors clear.  The decals were from his decal box.  JR was underwhelmed by the result but we thought it looked great.

College graduate Spencer Kosc brought in two beauties!  On the left is his 1/48 Hasegawa Shinden built out of the box, tape seatbelts, Tamiya rattle can silver, the remaining colors are Tamiya.  Miscellaneous decals.  Boy, that is one sharp looking model.

I was afraid of this…our new VP has screwed up already…he thought today was a Work Session!!  OK, OK, that’s not the case…he just had to repair a model that was damaged during transit!

What a meeting...15 guys!  We thought we were going to run out of room and might need to send someone home.  That explains why everybody kept looking at me!  See ya in two weeks!

Next is Doug’s old Monogram PBJ-1H (B-25H) painted with Hataka lacquer, Quickboost seat & gun barrels, decals from his spares bag, and weathered with Ammo by MIG washes and pastels.  Like I said, these masterpieces just keep coming!

On the right is his 1/48 Special Hobby Bu181 built out of the box.  He used the kit PE on the interior.  The canopy snapped while fitting so he didn’t use it and he didn’t use the exterior PE.  He used Tamiya paint.  Yes, those are panzerfausts attached to the wings!!!  Desperate times call for desperate measures!  We should see Spencer on a regular basis now that he has graduated…unless he moves away…

Big tank guy Mark Welch in his 1/16 Heng Long Pzr IIIL.  Mark gave me a lot of history but what we were interested in was seeing this puppy in action!  We heard the engine running after we heard it start up.  Moves forward and back and in circles.  The turret moves full circle, and the barrel moves up and down.  Even has a machine gun sound.  I guess the main gun can even fire a small projectile…but he wouldn’t demonstrate it on anyone…despite our suggestions!  This thing is way cool!  Oh….and it even generates a significant amount of exhaust smoke!

The connection between Mark Jahsan’s two models is pretty simple…the 1/48 F6F-5N Hellcat is just a much larger version of the same plane on the carrier deck!  This is the Eduard kit and he used Quick Boost aftermarket goodies.  He utilized Sky decals.  This plane was flown by Lt. Bill Henry who was the top carrier night fighter ace with 9.5 kills.

Now here is Mark’s 1/350 USS Independence which is a Dragon kit and he used Eduard PE and extra Trumpeter Hellcats.  This carrier was converted from the light cruiser USS Amsterdam and was the first in its class.  Can you see the fine PE on this baby??  I don’t know how Mark does it….

Santa brought Stan Carrier a new 3D 8K printer and a wash and cure machine.  As you can see, he’s been a very busy boy!  He used a resin material and Blender software.  The surface finish is amazing.  Amazing, Stanley!

Scott Herbert showed off his 1/144 Academy USMC F/A 18 Hornet VMFA Red Devils marked for the USS Nimitz.  He used Vallejo Model Air and AK 3rd Generation acrylics.  Panel lines highlighted with AK Panel Liner enamel.  The kit decals were very nice albeit small.  He says it was a just a simple little kit for some motivation.  Well it sure turned out great, Scott! (Stand broke off during transit...)

First up is Doug Seekman’s ICM OV-10A Bronco.  He painted it with Gunze Mr. Color, decals from Caracal, Quintas 3-D printed interior, Quickboost ejection seats, weathered with Ammo by MIG washes. This guy just keeps these beauties coming!

Doug’s third model of the day was this AMT/Ertl F-7F-3N Tigercat painted with Gunze Mr. Color, decals from Aeromaster, weathered with pastels, and contrail struct stock for rocket stubs under the wings.  He’s the AI of the modeling world!
