Doug Seekman was prolific today with four models…two for himself and two he built for Stan. First is his Dragon 1/48 TA-152H-1 which was developed for high altitude interception of Allied bombers. Note the glider type wing for high altitude and the plane came equipped with a three-stage supercharger! He painted with Gunze Mr. Color, Eagle Cal decals, seat from Ultracast, weathered with Ammo by MIG washes and pastels
That's it for today! A fun meeting...as usual!
Next we have Scott’s 1/35 MiniArt U.S. Tractor D7 painted with AK 3rd Generation and Vallejo model air paint. WOULD YOU BELIVE THERE ARE 615 PARTS IN THS KIT!! Yes, the kit was very challenging but Scott did a fantastic job!
We start today with Mark Jahsan’s USS Cleveland CL-55 which started life as the 1/350 kit from Very Fine purchased off eBay. This was a new kit manufacturer to us. Mark said it was a good kit and comes with PE but Mark added a bit more. The Cleveland was the leader of the largest class of light cruiser and came with 6” guns. He painted it in measure 22, navy blue to main deck line, haze gray above that, and the horizontal surfaces deck blue.Awesome model Mark and your display cases are amazing as well!
The one and only JR Burggren blew us away (and FSM magazine!) with this beautiful 1979 NDRA “Leon Archer” dirt late model. He used a vacuum formed body from Ron Coon as it came with the front fender bubbles. What a cool looking model! I was admiring the 6 “2” decals on the sides when he told us they were hand painted. WTH??? He scratchbuilt the chassis and interior. Tires and wheels are from Performance Plastic Parts. The frame is painted with Testors black and the body with Testor’s Mythical Maroon Extreme lacquer and finished with Future clear. What a beauty! What decals he did use were from his spares box.
Next is his Eduard 1/48 FW-190D-9 painted with Gunze Mr. Color, decals by Aeromaster, Quintas 3D interior, seat from Ultracast, weathered with Ammo by MIG washes and pastels. Doug said it was a nice kit!
Mark Welch showed up late and I have to say we were disappointed with him today. He brought in another one of his Heng Long giant scale tank models…this time the Panther G. This kit cost $295 but the all metal version can cost $6-7,000! He turned on the awesome sound effects, rotated and moved the tank and the turret, turned, on the smoke generator, and then, with no warming he fired off an airsoft round at Doug Seekman! But he missed. Very disappointing! 😉 Mark, get down to the target range and practice!!
Last up is Doug’s 1/72 Italeri Do-24T flying boat that he also built for Stan which he switched up and used the new AK 3G acrylic. No weathering. Doug airbrushed Alclad clear flat on all four models…his favorite flat. Another amazing model, Doug!
The third model Doug built was for Stan Carrier…a 1/72 Dragon AR-234P “what if” 4 engine jet aircraft painted with Gunze Mr. Color, decals from the kit, and weathered with Ammo by MIG washes and pastels. It only took Doug one day to build this model! Sweet!
Scott Herbert brought in two amazing military models. First up is his U.S. 2-1/2 ton 6X6 truck with the Bofors 40mm antic-aircraft gun. He started with the Tamiya kit and the Masters Promotions resin conversion kit. The Tamiya portion went together well but the resin conversion was a challenge. He used Google to translate the instructions from French into English. He painted with the AK 3rd Generation paint and Vallejo acrylics. He used AK enamels for weathering and AK pencils “as making it dirty is always a good distraction”. Great job, Scott!Scott Herbert brought in two amazing military models.
